VIA CRUSHIT devlog 1
First via cruxit devlog here, very cool. I have several updates and things to talk about and I will also provide resources for any gamedevs that are reading this, but don't worry, I will still keep it understandable enough for regular gamers.
First thing to mention, I got suggested to upload some sort of release by the end of August, so I'm planning on publishing a closed beta release for those who check on my stuff here. I know there aren't many people but I need some feedback before releasing a solid and polished demo/chapter. And you never know, maybe there are some overlooked bugs and responsive issues despite it being very short. It's also a gift cuz I'm very kind.
Since I must have this by August 20th, I decided to make a list of what I have to complete. Barely understandable, I know : (
Dw, currently (16/8/26) many of these goals have been crossed over.
Most of these are just "set up" instead of "make from scratch". Since I started making my game before in Godot I have many assets for this demo ready and I just have to put them in place. I won't lie, all game engines are a pain in the ass but many things have been easier in Unity, especially when it comes to 3D geometry and scenery.
Anyways, I have set up 99.99999% of the dialogue system, UI, and most models are ready for exporting so the list consists of simple additions like putting tags into the dialogue software (Inky) to play animations as you are having a conversation with a character. Here's a guide on how to do it.

I don't think I have ever mentioned this before but one of the main reasons why this game is taking me so long to complete is making the assets. I make all of the 3d models by myself, so if you ever wonder who the fuck was responsible for that terrible topology and uv mapping, it was me. Talking about uv mapping, I fucking hate texturing.
Why? Because I either have to take pictures of random things or start looking for something that's decent and doesn't have copyright and weird rules. But that's not my least favorite part because UV mapping exists. I'm not going to complain about it in this blog just because I said that Im keeping it simple enough for non gamedevs but if you're a 3D artist you must already understand my pain.
Other than modeling, I also do many of the SFX by myself, OST (it sucks ass, have mercy on me), art obviously, and idk what else to mention. Scripting, well, I do make my own scripts sometimes but since I'm new to C# I use many resources. This time you cannot blame me if the coding is ass jeje (what a retarded statement)

I've been missing something very important for my game, and that is a game cover art. I actually want to make several ones but some will be irl photoshoots so be patient for those please. But ye, I have finally made one. Usually I always hesitate when it comes to making these things because I want them to be perfect so the game never had a cover for the past 3 years of development. The same thing happened with the game title. I decided to give it more time for it to fit any lore changes properly and wanted to avoid having to change it if I ever came up with a better title.
When I came up with this idea the nun wasn't smiling but then the dynamic reminded me of a TV show my mom used to watch when I was around 6 years old. This show (or episode) was about a "butcher"/"hitman" that gets hired to get rid of annoying kids from very tired parents. These kids weren't even annoying and would get slaughtered for the dumbest shit ever. "My son chases me when I have to go to work and won't let me rest, very annoying". After reciving the complains and getting requested to get the child away from the parent, the hitman visits the home and takes the kid away without giving them a single hint about what's going to happen next. Then the kid is told to sit down on the ground, between the butchers legs, a perfect position for the next step, the reciting. The kid is usually told to recite the Quran with their eyes closed or blindfolded, looking up at Allah, happily reciting. That's when they're slaughtered with a massive knife to end them quick.
The show was recorded in a "documentary" structure so it seemed quite realistic. I've got no clue if that shit was a prank show for adults to prank the viewers or, idk man, that shit was weird, Arabic TV is quite edgy. Personally I was confused, I couldn't tell if my mom was just saying bullshit so I behave ("this is what happens to evil kids") or that shit was actually real.
But ye, this is why I chose to change the nun's expression. A smile that shows brainwash, innocence, manipulation... Reciting for your last time, about to meet death, (Sha'hada in the TVshow) while you think that you're doing it to clear your bright future. I wanted the art to be impactful but not graphic (yk, so it can be displayed in other places without having to censore anything) and the smile has helped me to reach this goal.
Other symology found in the art are the clothes. If you notice this murder is happening between 2 people of the same group (religion), so they're not really enemies but there's something not allowing them to be on good terms, atleast the preist cannot but the nun is fully trusting him. Ow ow I want to say more but I shouldn't : ( too bad. You can figure that out after you finish playing the game, someday. Lmk what you think though
